I do a lot of motivational talks where I try to knock people off center and motivate them to get out there and challenge themselves. Let's face it... it's awesome to set goals and knock them off, especially if they are huge and challenging. I also spend a lot of time with my retiree client base and sure we discuss their money and financial well being, but I also try and motivate them to get out there and use their energy wisely. Whether that means taking on a new hobby, researching an unexplored part of the world that they are dying to visit or a rehab of their fitness program. Regardless of which category you fall into, holding yourself accountable to your game plan is essential for increasing your odds of success. There are some low tech methods such as telling a friend or family member, writing your goals down along with a game plan and calendar of events to keep you on track. There's even some high tech methods to help keep track of anything you can imagine. I recently purchased a Fitbit which has completely revitalized not just my exercise program, but also my diet, time management, water intake and sleep patterns. It's literally turned my goals into daily manageable activities or do's and don'ts and lets me know how I'm doing along the way.
Whatever your goals are, you absolutely must spend as much time finding ways to hold yourself accountable to them as you spend writing them down in the first place. You'll be amazed at what you can accomplish! Keep doing great things!
